Kingsbury Hotel, Colombo, Sri Lanka
Friday 2/7/14
Mayu and I are about recuperated from the last couple crazy days, and are now resting up from a strenuous day of room service breakfast, hotel salon haircut, and poolside sun. It was hard work downing the margarita and pina colada out there in the lovely warm sunny breeze, but we managed. And dinner tonight at the Kingsbury's seafood restaurant was one of those magical evenings with a special friend sharing s heart and soul visit over a wonderful meal.
We were so tired last night when we arrived from Bangalore -- it was almost midnight by the time we got to our hotel room -- that we both slept through the entire night until past eight this morning. It's rare for either of us not to get up at least a half-dozen times throughout the night. I think tonight will be another one of those great restful sleeps.
OK, the Philippine Airlines front: no new news. The last word we've had is the refusal by the Hong Kong office to accommodate my request for the flight change so I can go straight to Manila from Bangalore. Philippine Airlines CEO Ramon Ang has not responded to any of our emails asking for his help.
So we're moving on to Plan C, which is stick to the original itinerary. This means change no flights, do the Hong Kong layover, and round up help to make it possible for me to do a two-night stay in Hong Kong by myself safely. My Lions Club friends. mainly Gislin Dagnelie and Larry Marcum from the RPList, are getting in touch with Hong Kong Lions Club members to ask for help,
Meanwhile, here in Colombo, I'm working on firming up meeting plans with the Sri Lanka Council for the Blind, and I also hope to get together with a Sri Lankan Lions Club member who also happens to be a past president of the International Lions Club.
One thing I've learned on this adventure is that things really do work out if you let them. The fact that I'm enjoying Sri Lanka with Mayu even though Linda had to cancel her trip is proof.
So I am hanging in there, focusing on total gratitude for being provided all the help I need, and on enjoying the moment, instead of ruining it with anxiety over how things are going to work out in the next moment.
This is an excellent strategy when you're planning on crashing a big fancy Indian wedding at an exclusive Sri Lankan resort hotel with your old college roommate.
Stay tuned.
