Mathru School for the Differently-Abled
Monday 1/13/14
After an entire morning taking stock of my classroom and getting it cleaned up and organized, General Dragon Lady showed up. Her first victim was Divya, who seemed startled to be greeted with the firm announcement that "we're going to have some rules in here."
"Rules?"
"Rule Number One," I announced, "is, you don't start a new project until you finish the one you've already started." I showed her the seven unfinished mosaics I'd lined up against one wall of the room.
"Oh, very good rule," she agreed.
"And Rule Number Two is, you don't leave the classroom until you've sorted out all your broken-up tiles into the proper color bins," I went on, indicating the pails of cut tiles that I'd spent the last hour sorting. Divya took a look and re-sorted some of the tiles into their proper pails.
"Rule Number Three: No one breaks up a whole tile until they've checked these bins of broken tiles first." Divya liked that one too.
"Rule Number Four: No one leaves the room until the glue sticks are cleaned up and the glue jar is properly cleanednand the lid put back on." I showed her the small half-empty jar of hardened glue that wasn't good for anything anymore except the trash can. It was this, more than anything else, that called General Dragon Lady into action. I really was irritated about the wasted gue.
Apart from that it was actually a good day. It felt good to get my classroom sorted out, and I didn't have any classes today, so after lunch I concentrated on getting my new mosaic started. It's another large mirror, and this one has bees in it. Rather excellent ones too, and they were a bee eye tee see ache to chip ut of the mirror shards. I'll take it with me tomorrow when I go over to the other school to teach.
And yes, The General Dragon Lsdy rules will be implemented there, too. Although they haven't had as much opportunity to make as big a mess as the teachers and students have made over here at the School for the Differently-Abled.
