Singapore

Okay, it was only about thirty bucks and not a hundred-dollar high-end jobbie, but the Conair folks advertise their little dual-voltage TravelSmart hair dryer as just about the smartest thing you can pack.
Not so. The damn thing died on me after only two quick uses to dry my hair, and I used it for less than five minutes each time. It's dual-voltage so it's not supposed to need a transformer, just an adaptor to plug into a foreign electrical socket.
Andy took a look at it and says the thing is a piece of junk. There is a note on the tag taped around the cord that says to "press the reset button" if it doesn't work. Har har har. The reset button is obstinately and permanently popped out and won't be pressed back in. Andy says he sees a lot of hair dryers with the reset buttons popped out like this, and he just replacers the plug-in unit with s regular plug. Very nice but then you lose the dual-voltage feature, and anyway that does me no good here in my Singapore hotel room where I need to hair dry my jeans (as in dry them using the hair dryer) that I had to wash in the tub last night.
Fortunately the hotel came to my rescue. Andy found a hair dryer in the closet, a little Phillips 220-volt jobbie that WORKS and now my jeans are DRY.
Rant over. Thanks for listening.
